Konflik Batin Tokoh Usopp dalam Komik One Piece

Abstract

This article examines the inner conflict experienced by Usopp, one of the central supporting characters in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, using a structural analysis approach. Although One Piece is widely recognized for its adventurous narrative, thematic depth, and large cast of characters, the psychological dimension of Usopp remains understudied in academic scholarship. As a character known for his cowardice, insecurity, and tendency to lie, Usopp displays a unique pattern of emotional struggle that intensifies in the Water Seven arc, particularly surrounding the condition of the Straw Hat Pirates’ ship, the Going Merry. This study aims to identify the forms of Usopp’s internal conflict, the factors that trigger it, and the resolutions he undertakes as his character develops. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data drawn from volumes 34-45 of the Indonesian and Japanese editions of One Piece as well as supporting literature. The analysis reveals three core internal conflicts: fear versus responsibility, longing for recognition versus inferiority, and dishonesty versus moral integrity. These conflicts are influenced by Usopp’s background, personal traits, and the extreme situations he encounters during his journey with the Straw Hat Pirates. Usopp resolves his internal conflicts through a gradual process of self-confrontation, emotional maturation, and redefinition of self-worth. The findings demonstrate that Usopp’s inner struggle plays a crucial role in shaping narrative tension and contributes significantly to the thematic structure of One Piece.
