Fungsi Aizuchishi Hee dalam Drama Teasing Master Takagi-San

Abstract

This study discusses the forms and functions of aizuchi. According to Horiguchi, aizuchi can be understood as short listener responses that indicate hearing, understanding, or showing interest in what the speaker is saying. Horiguchi (1997) mentions four forms of aizuchi: aizuchishi, kurikaeshi, iikiae, and sonota. This research focuses on the aizuchishi form Hee found in the drama Teasing Master Takagi-san. The reason for choosing this drama is that it contains various uses of aizuchishi Hee which are important to analyze as research objects. The data were collected from conversations that occurred within the drama Teasing Master Takagi-san. The theories used to analyze the function of aizuchishi Hee are Horiguchi’s aizuchi theory and Leech’s sociopragmatic theory. The method and technique of data collection employed the observation and note-taking method by observing the dialogues in the drama and recording conversations containing aizuchishi Hee. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results show that 46 instances of aizuchishi Hee were found in the dialogues between characters in Teasing Master Takagi-san. The analysis indicates that aizuchi Hee in this drama functions as a signal of listening (kiiteiru to iu shingou) and as an expression of emotion (kansei no hyoushutsu).
